Out on shelves, lettered by me, is Aquaman 27, Dark Knights Metal 1, Descender 23.
Well, I ended up getting slammed and couldn’t get a post in last week, so here it is–lettered by me! Only a few days late. Not much this week, but gems all.
AD AFTER DEATH HC| $24.99
One of the coolest books I’ve ever lettered, AD After Death, in Hardcover format. If you waited till the collected edition was here, this is for you. If you’ve already got the singles, than you probably still want to grab one of these. Image sent me a nice big box of them, and they are freakin’ gorgeous.
FLASH #25| $3.99
I can’t say enough good things about The Flash. It’s everything good superheroes comics should be. This one’s oversized for the 25th issue!
UNDERWINTER #04| $3.99
Ray Fawkes’ Underwinter is an unnerving slow descent into horror. It’s feels part Clive Barker and part Dario Argento and entirely Fawkes.
Till next time!
A pretty hefty week as far as my lettering releases go!
ALL STAR BATMAN #11| $4.99
Unless you live under a rock, you’re already reading All Star Batman and loving it. You’re also probably aware that it’s coming to an end at issue 14. I’ve no idea what my future holds as far as lettering a batman book but this book has been a career highlight. Getting to letter JrJr on the first arc was a full circle moment for me. John Romita Jr is one of the reasons I wanted to make comics. And I’ve worked with Scott for many years now and he’s just as cool and as kind as they come. He can also write the hell out of bats.
AQUAMAN #25| $3.99
Aquaman is a new gig for me. I was asked to join the new creative team as part of a new direction for the book. Once I saw the art I signed on immediately. I’ll be honest, I’ve not read much Aquaman ever, but I’m looking forward to being a part of the new team and seeing what life is like in the depths of Atlantis.
DESCENDER TP VOL 04 ORBITAL MECHANICS| $16.99
I love working on Descender with Jeff and Dustin. They are easily two of the coolest dudes in comics and they have been creating one of the best space operas since Star Wars and I’ve been there from the start. Not only do I letter the book, but I also design some of the elements too.
ROYAL CITY #04| $3.99
I work on a lot of books with Jeff. He does huge books, cape books, all kinds of books. But my favorites of his are Essex County, The Underwater Welder, and Roughneck (the latter two I lettered) and this is more in line with those but at the very beginning. Looking forward to seeing where Royal City goes.
TRINITY #10| $3.99
You like Batman? Superman? Wonder Woman? Then you like Trinity. Trinity captures the essence of DC’s trinity every issue, and does it with beautiful visuals.
As of yesterday (6/14) you can find these rad books on the shelves. With exception to Dark Days: The Forge #1 which is sold out and going to a second printing–so good luck grabbing a copy!
Dark Days: The Forge #1 which is just a whole lotta awesome.
The Flash #24, which I wasn’t able to letter due to a scheduling conflict, but you should check it out anyway.
Gotham Academy Second Semester #10, which is winding down to the end of the series and I’m really going to miss this one. The book and the entire team behind it are all heart.
Supergirl #10, which is fun series. Brian Ching’s art is so damn energetic.
And I think that’s it. Oh, I think Motor Crush volume 1 is also out this week. I’m not involved on the book, but it’s awesome and you should all go grab a copy.
Stay Dead 3: The Condemned is in the final stage of edits with Adam Staffaroni. After that it’s off to Beth Scorzato (https://bethscorzato.com) who has come aboard as proofreader! Then I’ll be formatting both the digital and print editions of the book. The cover is done and I couldn’t be happier with it. With Book 3 being so close to release I thought it was time to give Book 1 a new cover. I’ve never been happy with it and figured it was a good time to give it a new one.
If you’ve haven’t checked out the series yet, now is a great time to jump in. Book 4 is in progress (a third of the way written), and I’m pretty confident the series will come to a close at Book 6.
Book One can be found here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004VB514O/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_dp_T1_vrcqzbFS91V9Q
Hitting the shelves today is the first hardcover collection of Trinity Volume 1: Better Together. A fun book I get to letter that stars the DCU’s greatest heroes; The Dark Knight, The Man of Steel, and The Amazonian Warrior.
Find out more about it here: http://www.dccomics.com/graphic-novels/trinity-2016/trinity-vol-1-better-together
In finer comic shops you can find two books I’ve lettered out this week; Black Road #10 (the end of the “Magnus The Black” arc) and The Flash #23 (the beginning of the “The Color of Fear” arc). Both books use the same main font, but with very different stylistic approaches in the rest of the lettering.
If you’ve found this blog than I don’t really have to tell you that I’m an artist, a comic book letterer, or an indie author, do I? Good, glad that’s out of the way. I’ve gotten paid for my art since my teens, have been lettering comic books since 2007, and dove head first into self-publishing in 2010.
This blog will focus on my art, lettering, and journey as an indie author. Let’s call it a professional blog, or if you prefer, a work blog. Why blog about work? Well, I love what I do. Most of the time. And don’t we all talk about the things we love?
So, you should expect to see blog entries about what artwork I’m creating, what comic books I’m lettering, and what stories I’m writing. I doubt I will have a regular schedule, but you can count on at least a post a week.
Part of starting this blog is to challenge myself, and another is to reach out and find a larger audience for my writing. Currently my art and lettering pay the bills and warrant most of my time. Being an indie author has been relegated to a spare time hobby, but I really want to change that. I’m not sure how, or in what way this blog can help me do it, but that’s something I’m hoping to gain by blogging.
